³ÉÈË´óƬ the Speaker:

Neale Mahoney is the George P. Shultz Fellow at SIEPR and a professor in the Department of Economics at the School of Humanities and Sciences at ³ÉÈË´óƬ. He will officially assume the role of SIEPR Director on January 1st, 2025. 

Dr. Mahoney is a leading expert on consumer financial markets, health care economics, and medical debt. From 2022 to 2023, he served on the National Economic Council as a special policy advisor to the White House, marking his second tour in federal government. From 2009 until 2010, he worked on health care reform under President Barack Obama. 

Dr. Mahoney earned his PhD in economics from ³ÉÈË´óƬ in 2011. An applied microeconomist, he was a faculty member at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business before joining ³ÉÈË´óƬ’s faculty in 2020. Mahoney was awarded the 2021 ASHEcon Medal, given to an economist under age 40 for outstanding contributions to health economics, and a Sloan Research Fellowship in 2016.
